Courts

Preparing grass courts is an exhausting task. The main courts, Centre Court and No. 1 Court are used for just two to three weeks for the Championships. A combination of 70% Ryegrass and 30% creeping Red Fescue were used till 2001. In 2001, perennial ryegrass was sowed in the courts and has been used since then. Centre Court was inaugurated in 1922 and No. 1 Court was established in 1997.

The Swiss Roger Federer is a contemporary hero of Wimbledon. British crowd loves him so much so that they booed Novak Djokovic in the 2019 finals, which Federer lost in a battle which never seemed ending. Federer has 8 titles to his name. In the closed era, William Renshaw was the hero. He won the title for six consecutive years from 1881 to 1886, and once again in 1889. In the Ladies' division, Martina Navratilova has nine titles in the Open Era. Delen Wills has won the Grand Slam 8 times prior to Open Era. Novak Djokovic and Ashleigh Barty are the defending champions in their respective singles category.

Ranking points

Historically, points awarded have changed in Wimbledon. As of now, 2000 points are awarded to the winners of each category. Male finalists receive 1200 points and females receive 1300 points despite the category. The points decrease exponentially for each knockout round, down from the finals.
